Voices
Readream Pro offers three local voice levels. System voices require no model download; Piper and Kokoro are optional open-source downloads you control and can remove.
Level 1
Uses voices already installed on your Android device. Readream surfaces American and British options clearly when they are available.

Voice selection
Level 1 surfaces compatible installed American and British Android voices. Pro also presents optional Piper and Kokoro downloads, including Mandarin choices, with their RAM and power needs kept visible.
Neural voice archives come directly from open-source sherpa-onnx model releases inside Pro. Downloading a model is not cloud speech processing; speech runs locally after the archive is on the device.
How narration stays smooth
Readream reads semantic passages instead of stopping at visual line edges. It can pre-generate up to five upcoming segments so the reading queue has room to stay seamless.
Pro supports background and screen-off narration through a media-style notification with play/pause plus headset button control. Basic stops narration when the reader closes, the app backgrounds, or the screen turns off.
