Readream Pro

Readream Premium Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 17, 2026

This policy applies to Readream Premium (com.readream.pro). Readream Premium is an offline-first reader and writing workspace. It does not contain advertising, account creation, or behavioral advertising. Except for the optional network features described below, reading, writing, and document processing occur locally. The Readream developer does not sell personal information.

Information stored on the device

Readream Premium stores documents selected by the reader, reading positions, shelves, bookmarks, highlights, notes, vocabulary entries, narration checkpoints, Writer projects, chapters, revisions, reading preferences, and downloaded voice models in app-controlled storage on the device. This information is used to provide the features selected by the reader and is not sent to the Readream developer.

Android's document and share pickers give Readream Premium access only to files selected by the reader. Readream Premium does not scan unrelated device storage. Passwords entered to open supported documents are used for that open operation and are not retained as account credentials.

Read-aloud, voice previews, and model downloads

Android system read-aloud uses the selected text-to-speech engine installed on the device. That engine processes the passage being spoken, and its provider's privacy policy applies to the engine.

Piper and Kokoro narration runs locally after the reader downloads the required model. Book text sent to these local engines remains on the device.

When the reader explicitly taps Preview, Readream Premium streams a short prerecorded voice sample over HTTPS from the Readream voice release hosted on GitHub. The preview does not send book text, notes, reading history, file names, or search history. Preview audio is played temporarily and is not intentionally saved by Readream Premium.

When the reader explicitly chooses to download a Piper or Kokoro model, Readream Premium downloads the model archive over HTTPS from the pinned Readream voice release hosted on GitHub. Downloaded archives are checked against expected sizes and cryptographic hashes before use and are stored in private app storage. Readers can remove optional voice models from the app.

GitHub and its release-content delivery providers may receive ordinary connection data needed to deliver a preview or model, such as the reader's IP address, request time, requested file, and technical network information. An IP address may reveal approximate location. GitHub handles this information under its own privacy terms. Readream Premium does not receive this connection information from GitHub and does not use it for advertising or analytics.

Optional online book catalog

When you open Discover books, Readream requests results from the source you choose: Project Gutenberg, validated English Wikisource texts, or Standard Ebooks' public new-release feed. Requests use HTTPS. Project Gutenberg and Wikisource receive the search/filter terms needed to return results and selected book identifiers for details. Standard Ebooks searches filter its downloaded feed on your device; those search terms are not sent to Standard Ebooks. Wikisource EPUB downloads use Wikimedia's WS Export service and send the selected public text title. Visible cover images may load from the source or Wikimedia Commons.

These providers receive ordinary connection information, including your IP address, request time, app user-agent and requested address. Read Project Gutenberg's privacy policy and Wikimedia's privacy policy. Standard Ebooks provides its public feed directly; see its source and feed information. Readream does not operate a catalog proxy, require a catalog account, or receive those providers' connection logs.

Catalog results, details and cover images may be cached locally for faster repeat visits and offline access to previously viewed results. Saved-for-later books, up to eight recent searches, browsing position, view preferences and download preferences are stored only on this device; they are not synced to Readream servers. Recent searches can be removed or cleared in the catalog. Downloaded books, their original license notices, and reading data are stored in the app's local library. Recoverable interrupted downloads may retain an unfinished file for safe resuming; it can be cleared from Downloads. Clear catalog cache removes cached results and covers without erasing downloaded books or saved lists. Books can be deleted from the library, and clearing app data removes all local catalog preferences. Downloads do not send your private documents, highlights, narration text or writing projects to the catalog source. The catalog contains no advertising SDK or ads.

Catalog browsing and book downloads are free in both Readream apps. Readream earns no profit or commissions from providing these books: there are no catalog ads or book-download fees. A Readream Pro purchase pays for the app's additional features, not access to these books. Readream is not affiliated with or endorsed by Project Gutenberg, Wikisource/Wikimedia, or Standard Ebooks. Standard Ebooks access is limited to its openly available new-release feed, not its access-controlled full catalog. Original source/license/attribution notices stay in downloaded books. Copyright varies by country.

Delete download in a downloaded book's details removes its local file, reading progress, bookmarks and highlights, but keeps the catalog saved-for-later list. You can download the book again. No private reading content is uploaded by browsing, downloading, or deleting a catalog book.

Optional notifications

Optional smart reading reminders

Book recommendations use on-device, per-book reading/listening minutes, return visits and recency from the last 28 days. Briefly opened, short, completed and unavailable documents are excluded. EPUB length is checked temporarily on-device; extracted passages are not saved or uploaded. The reminder may show a book title from your existing library, with generic lock-screen content. Turning Notifications off also stops this per-book learning. Reading time stops counting after three minutes without interaction; active read-aloud time can continue counting.

Smart reminders and network-context learning are on by default. There is no custom introduction popup. Android requests notification permission when needed; Settings → Notifications explains the feature and allows turning it off. Readream learns reading/listening time windows and counts of active reader minutes on this device. The learning window covers the most recent 28 days; older habit records are removed the next time enabled learning or a reminder check processes them. It also stores the identifier of the last-read library book and local reminder delivery, snooze, and dismissal state. It does not record book passages, document contents, unrelated app usage, or geographic coordinates for this feature. Reminder timing is a local heuristic, not a trained prediction of whether you will return. Android notification permission is separate; declining it during setup turns reminders and their learning off.

Network context is part of automatic reminder timing. Readream uses available gateway and DNS configuration from the current Wi-Fi connection to create an installation-specific keyed signature using a key in Android Keystore. Raw network properties are processed temporarily and are not retained by this feature. It does not read Wi-Fi names, router identifiers, scan nearby networks, look up your public IP, or call location services. Matching is approximate: different networks may have identical configuration, and VPN connections are excluded. These signatures are not used to identify Home/Work or map physical places.

Nothing from smart reminders is uploaded to Readream or an analytics service. Android schedules local reminder checks and may delay delivery. Settings → Notifications has one On/Off switch. Turning it off stops habit/network recording and cancels reminder work and notifications. Turning it back on resumes automatic timing with default quiet hours of 22:00–08:00. No separate timing, fingerprinting, or history controls are shown. Existing learned history stays local while off; older habits are pruned when enabled processing resumes. Clearing Android app data or uninstalling removes the local history; Android cloud backup is disabled. This switch does not suppress required import/download status notifications or read-aloud playback controls.

Readream Premium uses local Android notifications to show user-started document imports, book or voice downloads, and read-aloud playback controls. The current app does not register for Firebase Cloud Messaging or remote marketing push notifications. These local notifications do not send reader content to a notification provider. Android controls notification permissions and categories; readers can change them in Android settings.

External actions, sharing, and exports

When a reader chooses web search, dictionary, translation, or an external link, Android opens another app or browser selected by the reader. When the reader chooses Share or Export, Android sends only the selected content to the application or storage location chosen by the reader. The destination's privacy policy applies after that handoff.

Readream Premium does not share reader content with advertisers or data brokers.

Background narration

When the reader starts narration, Readream Premium may use an Android media-playback foreground service so narration can continue while the app is in the background or the screen is off. Android displays playback controls in a notification and may route controls through connected headsets. Narration state and checkpoints remain on the device.

Retention, deletion, and security

Books, annotations, Writer projects, reading data, and downloaded models remain on the device until the reader deletes them, clears the app's data, or uninstalls the app. Android cloud backup is disabled for Readream Premium's private app data. Device lock-screen, storage-encryption, operating-system, and selected export-destination protections still apply. No storage method can be guaranteed completely secure, so readers should keep separate copies of important documents and Writer exports.

Clearing Readream Premium's app data or uninstalling the app removes its local notification preferences from the device.

Children

Readream Premium is a general-audience books and productivity application and is not directed specifically to children. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.
