Reading does not need a live account
Reading progress, notes, highlights, and book organization can be useful without placing the book in a remote service.
Readream is built around local files and on-device workspace data, so a train ride or an unreliable connection does not change the core reading experience.
Optional downloads stay explicit
Pro can download optional open-source voice archives when you choose a Piper or Kokoro voice. This is a download choice, not cloud speech processing.
After a model is on the device, narration runs locally. A downloaded voice can be removed from the same voice area later.
Separate apps keep the line clear
Basic is a complete no-ads daily reader. Pro is a separate app for the larger reading, study, writing, and neural voice workspace.
That split is intentional: Basic does not package hidden Pro implementations behind a purchase button.
