Begin with the voice your phone already has
Level 1 uses Android system voices already installed on the device. It has the smallest footprint and the lowest power cost because there is no model archive to fetch.
For many readers, this is the right everyday choice. Readream surfaces American and British options when the device provides them.
Use Piper when you want a removable local upgrade
Level 2 Piper voices are separate open-source downloads in Pro. A voice is about 64 MiB, and a device with around 2.5 GiB of usable RAM is the practical starting point.
Choose one voice, listen for a chapter, then remove it if it is not the right fit. The app should make that decision reversible.
Reserve Kokoro for more capable devices
Level 3 Kokoro uses a shared model archive and asks more from memory and battery. Around 5 GiB of usable RAM is the practical starting point.
It is an optional quality tier, not the default everyone should install. The best voice is the one your device can use smoothly through a real reading session.
